Matters Arising: Christmas Tree
    Planning Application Wildfowler
    Halloween Disco & Fancy Dress
    Christmas Supper Night

Christmas Tree: R. Campbell asked committee for feedback on the Christmas Tree Lighting-up event and for any comments there might be.
Although most members attending felt that it was a very successful evening, which attracted a large number of parents and children, some comments were made regarding the lack of heating and entertainment at the refreshments immediately afterwards.  R. Campbell explained that we had hoped to use the function room at the Wildfowler but unfortunately it was already booked and that a mix up with the actual timing of our event meant that the heating was not switched on  soon enough.  M. Brown  added that this was one of these unfortunate mix ups and since we normally get the use of rooms at the wildfowler free of charge, for both committee meetings and functions, we have no real grounds for complaint.  In general, committee felt that this was a very successful evening which enhanced community participation  between this committee, community policing and the community of Greyabbey.  R. Campbell expressed a vote of thanks to  Constable Cassels adding that he will be sadly missed when he retires shortly.  N. Cornick suggested that committee could make a presentation or similar, to commemorate his retirement.  Committee felt that this would be a fitting gesture and agreed to further discuss the matter at the next meeting.  In closing this topic R. Campbell expressed her thanks to Eric Rose for providing Tea and Coffee on the evening.

Wildfowler Planning Application: No further developments at present.

Halloween Disco & Fancy Dress:  M. Brown reported that despite his earlier prediction that this event might only break even, he was delighted to inform committee that when all proceeds had been collected the total profit raised at this event was £131.10.

Christmas Supper Night: Although feedback for this event was mostly positive committee agreed that it just didn’t have the same atmosphere as previous events.  Comments ranged from too many children running about unsupervised, shortage of sandwiches, not enough Christmas music played, music too loud and cleanliness of Village hall.  Committee felt that most of these issues could be satisfactorily resolved for future events.  M. Brown reported that although this event should realise a good profit, he has not yet received all proceeds from ticket sales.

Youth Report: C. Mitchell & R. Campbell reported that they had been in contact with Brian Dorrian (ABC) regarding the erection of a portakabin to the rear of the Village hall.  By all accounts this was a very positive meeting with Mr Dorrian being very helpful and sympathetic towards the youth groups requirements.  He was able to confirm that the land was still available but any proposal would have to go through council for their approval.
C. Mitchell requested that committee set some time aside at the next meeting to further discuss the matter.

Other Business:  M. Brown raised the sad topic of WPC Susan Falkingham who died suddenly on 31st December 2006.  Susan, a recently retired community police officer, who lived and worked in the village for many years, was dedicated to delivering a first class community police service to all the inhabitants of Greyabbey.  In that respect she was highly successful and gained the admiration and respect of everyone she came into contact with.  Her participation with the youth of the village is well known and the constant stream of primary school children visiting the Police station to talk to Susan was testament to her popularity.  Although Susan’s funeral service took place in Austria, M. Brown stated that he was aware that a remembrance service would be held in Greyabbey in the near future and requested that this committee approve funding for flowers or a donation.  Funding of £30.00 for flowers - or a donation was approved.  Prop.  N. Cornick   Sec.  C. Mitchell.

On closing the meeting R. Campbell asked committee to come up with some ideas for future events which will be discussed at the next meeting.  Some immediate reactions included, Quiz Night, Karaoke and a Fun-day event for 2008.

Next Meeting: Monday 19th  February 2007
