John, she continued, had been an active and highly respected member of this committee for a number of years and had a particular interest in a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme for the village. Unfortunately, partly due to John’s ill health, the scheme has yet to be implemented in Greyabbey but hoped that the new committee would continue with the good work. D. Murray, a close personal friend of John, stated that John had been a great neighbour and that they had become very close friends during the short time that they had known each other. He went on to give a brief history of John’s exemplary life both as a rear gunner in Lancaster Bombers during the second world war and later as an aeronautical engineer. He added that John will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Matters Arising: Introduction Meeting – New Committee Public Toilets Policing Notice Board Any other Business
Introduction Meeting: No introduction required - committee continued with the business at hand.
Public Toilets: M. Brown reported that ABC voted to retain the public toilets at the present location on Main Street. He acknowledged the support of local councillors Kieran McCarthy, Jim Shannon, Angus Carson and particularly Joe Boyle for their assistance on this issue.
Policing: Further to previous discussions on this subject M. Brown reported that there was nothing to report from the Peninsula Community Network meeting as senior PSNI officers invited to this meeting failed to attend. N. Cornick invited Robert Davidson (CPLC Chairperson) to enlighten committee on the current state of Policing in the area. Robert Davidson thanked committee for the opportunity to speak and continued by stating that the lack of community policing was a direct result of a change in shift patterns within Ards district command. CPLC have complained to the Policing Board and that some pressure was being exerted at MLA and councillor level and that the issue was on the agenda for the next DPP meeting. He stated that Sgt. Shaw was hoping to re-open Greyabbey Police Station on Wednesday’s but warned that for this to continue, the community would have to be seen to use the facility. Trevor Patterson stated that he was very disappointed that Police no longer felt obliged to conduct traffic control duties at funerals. He reminded committee that the route to Greyabbey cemetery has blind corners and that he had personally witnessed a collision with a hearse on one occasion. Robert Davidson agreed to discuss the matter at the next CPLC meeting. Notice Board: M. Brown reported that he had repaired the Perspex and improved the look of the Notice Board by adding some coloured felt board.
