Ards Community Safety Project / Neighbourhood Watch Scheme: M. Brown reported that ABC representative was unable to attend this meeting due to a DPP meeting on the same night. R. Campbell commended J. Brady for his patience and the amount of time and effort he had put into this project. She apologised for the delay in bringing it to a conclusion but reiterated the decision taken at the last meeting ‘that no further action could be taken until all the facts are known’. With the approval of J. Brady it was agreed that NHW be taken off the agenda until ABC can provide someone to address committee. (M. Brown to contact R. Brittain ABC)
Road Surfaces / Speeding: No report available at this meeting. Alderman Jim Shannon to attend next meeting.
Christmas Lights Competition: R. Campbell reported that she was informed by
Mr Joseph Long that Greyabbey Orange Lodge has been running a (residents only) Christmas Lights Competition for a number of years. Subject to agreement by the Orange Lodge, Mr Long felt that there would be no objections to GADCA running this competition in the future and that the Lodge would be happy to provide a prize for the residential lighting competition. Committee agreed that this was a very generous gesture by Greyabbey Orange Lodge and asked R. Campbell to thank Mr. Long and the Lodge. (GADCA will provide a prize for the Trader’s Lights Competition as previously agreed). Committee agreed that an independent judge should be sought to choose winners from both categories. R. Campbell will contact Ards Arts to ascertain their interest in performing this task. It was agreed that the judging should take place the week prior to the Christmas supper Night. Winners would then be announced at that event.
B. Workman suggested that the Christmas Hamper be used to run a Christmas Ballot. Committee agreed to this suggestion. (Prop. J. Brady Sec. B. Workman)
Pub Quiz: Venue - The Wildfowler Inn - Friday 7th October @ 8.00 pm - Admission £2.00. M. Brown reported that the venue was booked and that posters are ready for distribution. R. Campbell had 100 tickets produced for the event and asked committee members to take some of these to sell to friends etc. Event will be advertised in Greyabbey Notes and by posters throughout village and surrounding areas. (R. Campbell agreed to a limited door to door with spare tickets). Committee members asked to provide low-value / unwanted gifts for ballot prizes. These can be brought along on the night or left with
M. Brown. Item’s surplus to requirements will be held over for Tombola at Christmas Supper Night. Committee members are asked to arrive at the event by 7.15 pm to help with setting up.

Youth Report: R. Campbell reported that 5 - 10 yrs group had started back and that they had 6 new members. Member numbers are now up to 40 in this age group and the need for volunteer leaders, particularly male leaders, was now greater than ever. C. Mitchell is currently on a leaders course and first aid course.
CPLC Report: B. Workman reported that speeding through the village, particularly motorcycles on Sundays, had been discussed at their last meeting. With reference to NHW, CPLC are willing to support GADCA on any decision that is made. D. McGreal stated that he was of the opinion that grant funding was available for NHW but not for any other similar scheme.
Other Business: D. McGreal reported various areas of village looking untidy with particular emphasis on litter in or around development sites and overhanging brambles obstructing footpaths. He also pointed out that Greyabbey has two registered blind residents who would be active walkers and in danger of being snared by brambles. Committee agreed it was the responsibility of Roads Services to address these problems and suggested that a letter be sent to outline the concerns of GADCA. (Pro. D. McGreal Sec. B. Workman).
