Village Plan: N. Cornick welcomed Mr Geoffrey Porter to the meeting and thanked him for taking the time to shed some light on the concept of the village plan.  Mr Porter explained that the village plan was a European and local government renewal initiative which was being targeted at a number of rural villages throughout N. Ireland.  It was his understanding that the first step would be the consultation process which will identify various needs and regeneration projects throughout the village.  The Scott Wilson team of consultants assigned to the task would then produce a display board depicting a map of the village which will highlight a number of viable projects  for consideration.  The display board along with a comments box would then be placed in a prominent position within the village to attract feedback from the wider community.  With regard to funding, he admitted that funding may not be sufficient to cover every project identified and that it will almost certainly be a case of selecting a project from within the limits of funding.  Although funding was not currently available he intimated that it would hopefully become available in the next financial year.
N. Cornick thanked Mr Porter for the information he had provided stating that this committee was now more confident that the village would in fact benefit from this scheme.

Halloween Disco & Fancy Dress:  Mixed feelings as to the success of this event were expressed by committee but in general a good turn out from the community made all the hard work worthwhile.   R. Campbell felt that the Karaoke was not as successful on this occasion and that people left early as a result.  M. Dalley, when asked for his opinion (as a non committee member and one who had attended the event) felt that the karaoke was not very well organised and that more music and dancing would have been a better option.
M. Brown stated that he could not give a detailed financial report on the event as ticket money was still outstanding.  Assuming that all tickets issued have been sold he predicted a small loss on the night.   N. Cornick reminded committee that this was a community event as opposed to a fund raiser and to that extent the event has once again proved successful.
M. Brown asked committee for approval to pay all Halloween event expenses.
(Prop. B. Workman  Sec. T. Lindsay).

Christmas Tree: R. Campbell reported that she had been in contact with the community police officer and was told that the tree could not be erected until after 6th December.  Once a definite date could be ascertained she would liaise with committee members to organise the carol service and refreshments afterwards.  D. Montgomery has kindly agreed to supply the tree.  M. Brown to purchase new set of lights for tree and book Parish Hall for refreshments.  R. Campbell to purchase mince pies and sweets for children etc.  N. Cornick to choose carols for the short service at tree.

Abbey Herb Garden:  N. Cornick reported that he was approached by the Abbey ground keeper regarding an event to be held at the Abbey on 26/7/08 relating to the Monks and their Herb Gardens.  He was asked whether or not this committee would like to get involved.  Various aspects of the event were discussed at length with committee in agreement to participate.  N. Cornick to write and register committee’s enthusiasm with the appropriate body.

Future Events:  Committee discussed the possibility of a Valentines or Easter event.  Due to time constraints it was agreed to continue with this topic at the next meeting.

Open Meeting:  N. Cornick suggested that the next meeting should be an open meeting to enlighten the community on the purpose and progress of the village plan.
M. Brown stated that the attendance of David Birch (ABC) would be essential as he was the scheme co-ordinator and would be better qualified to answer any questions from those attending.  M. Brown to contact D. Birch and advertise meeting in Greyabbey notes.
N. Cornick to book Church Hall (old cemetery).

Other Business:
Street Lighting: S. Capper reported that a resident from Islandview was being continually harassed by youths who would cause a disturbance and then slip into the darkness of the playground.  The resident concerned felt that additional lighting in this area may alleviate the problem.  M. Brown to make enquiries.

Bad Timekeeping:  Due to the unforgivable late attendance of our beloved Chairperson, committee (generous to a fault) decided to cut him some slack and change the start time from 7.30pm to 8.00pm.

Next Meeting: Monday 21st January 2008 @ 8.00pm  Wildfowler Inn

Please Note:  David Birch Unavailable - Open Meeting Cancelled.
