Matters Arising: Christmas Tree Planning Application Wildfowler Halloween Disco & Fancy Dress Christmas Supper Night
Christmas Tree: R. Campbell opened the discussion by commending the local Community Police officers for their efforts over the past number of years in erecting a Christmas tree and involving the local primary school children at the lighting up ceremony. She explained that the officers had always personally funded any expense and that this year the community association was privileged to be able to assist with the expense of new lights for the tree. In agreement with Constable Castles, GADCA would also host a light supper immediately after the carol service (kindly sponsored by Eric Rose – Wildfowler Inn). Constable Castles thanked the committee for the donation of the lights adding that the tree had always been provided FOC by Greyabbey Estates, which kept the actual cost of the event to a minimum. He stated that he was shortly to retire from the PSNI and that it had been a pleasure to serve the Community of Greyabbey and thoroughly enjoyed involving the children of the village in an event such as this. The date for switching on Christmas Tree lights was set for Friday 1st December @ 7.00 pm – light supper Wildfowler Inn immediately afterwards.
Wildfowler Planning Application: R. Campbell stated that she had been speaking with the school principal and had viewed the plans for this development which included 5 shops and 17 apartments. The application extends from the square to Hoops courtyard which would indicate that the building currently occupied by the Hair dresser was also to be demolished. Committee agreed that this development was extensive and would cause considerable congestion during both the construction stage and on completion. M. Brown stated that a letter of objection had been sent to DOE planning regarding this application and a standard reply had been received. He commented that he had also viewed the plans and was taken back by the scale of the development.
Halloween Disco & Fancy Dress: Committee agreed that this event had been a real hoot. R. Campbell thanked committee for all the hard work which made the night a great success. She commented that it was very obvious that everyone attending had made a special effort to get into fancy dress. M. Brown reported that he had still not received all money from ticket sales therefore an accurate financial report was not yet available. He did however indicate that given the level of expenditure and the low cost of tickets, a small profit from this event was still expected. R. Campbell agreed that ticket prices for this event could have been higher but that this was a night for the community and we succeeded in bringing the community together.
Christmas Supper Night: Date for this event was originally scheduled for 15th December 2006 but had to be brought forward to 9th December to accommodate our very important catering professionals. Committee agreed that this was the only sensible solution as the food was a big part of this event and required the culinary skills from both of our highly qualified ladies. G. Ritchie informed committee that both P. Cornick and herself had everything in hand and all she required was numbers expected to attend. R. Campbell stated that all tickets had been sold and catering for 110 would be sufficient. Committee members were asked to meet at the Village hall at 1pm to help set up tables etc.
Next Meeting: Monday 15th December 2007
